Gerard Pique returns to training after ankle injury, set for ‘El Clásico’
Barcelona centre-back, Gerard Pique returned to training on Monday morning, after missing Sunday’s match against Osasuna due to an ankle problem and looks to be fully fit for this weekend’s highly-anticipated ‘El Clasico’ against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The starters from Barcelona’s 7-0 rout of Osasuna did a light ‘recovery’ training session, while the remaining players, including Pique and Barcelona B midfielder Sergi Samper, trained in full with manager Tata Martino.
However, Martino will be closely monitoring Pique’s progress, as he doesn’t want to risk one of his most experienced defenders ahead of one of the most important matches of the season.
Carles Puyol, who has struggled with knee issues all season, is questionable for what will be his final La Liga ‘Clasico’ (he could still play them in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey final), but took part in several exercises but was held out of the more involved drills.
