Muscle tear sidelines Giovani for Villarreal
Villarreal have announced that the injury that limited Giovani Dos Santos to just six minute of action on Thursday night, is a muscle tear, although no recovery period has been determined.
In the 56th minute of Thursday night’s clash at Getafe, with Villarreal leading thanks to a 5th minute goal from Jérémy Perbet, manager Marcelino sought to inject some freshness into his forward line, as chances began to dry up in the game. On went Giovani Dos Santos, replacing Nigerian striker Ike Uche.
Just six minutes later, the Mexican was limping back towards the sidelines with a muscle problem and Villarreal were forced to make a swift change of plans, sending midfielder Tomás Pina on in his place.
Following further examinations on Friday, the medical services of Villarreal have announced that Giovani has suffered a muscle tear in the femoral biceps of his left leg.
The club haven’t given a prognosis as to when the forward can be expected to make a return, suggesting that it will depend entirely on recovery process over the next few days, in which they will monitor the player and perform more tests.
At this stage it’s difficult to know when the player can expect a return to action. A grade 2 or partial muscle tear might allow Giovani to recover in a week or two, depending on treatment. A grade 3 or complete tear, could however sideline the player for a number of months. With the World Cup in Brazil just around the corner, the Mexican national team will clearly be keeping a close eye on his evolution too.
