Iniesta: This is a step backwards and it hurts

Barcelona midfielder, Andres Iniesta was left without explanation following his side’s second consecutive 1-0 loss, this time to Granada at Nuevo Los Carmenes and the Spanish international admitted that it was a painful step backwards.

In his post-match interview, Iniesta spoke about the shocking loss and where it leaves them, all the while being hugged by a young fan,

“It’s a step backwards.  One play, their goal, punished all the hard work we did.  It’s a step backwards.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to give an explanation when we lose.  We didn’t score a goal.  The rest of the time we controlled the match.  The only one we let get away from us was they play where they scored.  Teams like this, who are playing for their lives, live for this play.  It’s too great a punishment.  We should’ve won and we didn’t get it done.

“We had everything in place to score.  We failed to finish, which is the most difficult part in all of this and it made the difference.  When teams come with different motivations, this is what happens.”

Iniesta denied that this was a result of their Champions League elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

“Being eliminated is one thing, this is another.  Today we lacked the finishing touch.  If it had been for another reason I’d tell you, this step backwards hurts us because of what little time we have left.”
