Real Madrid linked with Sporting CP youth product William Carvalho
Real Madrid have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Sporting CP midfielder, William Carvalho. as the 22-year-old has played an instrumental part in the club’s current 2nd place standing, but will come at a price as his current release clause, on his contract which lasts until 2018, is set at €45 million.
According to Portuguese sports daily, A Bola, Real Madrid were seen scouting the player in a recent match between Sporting and Gil Vicente, but they face serious competition from Manchester United, Arsenal and to a certain extent, Malaga, who were all at the match as well.
However, Real Madrid may have a leg up on the competition as Carvalho’s agent happens to be Jorge Mendes, who also represents Angel Di Maria, Fabio Coentrao and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Carvalho was called up from the youth ranks in January 2012, but immediately went on loan to Belgian side Cercle Brugge, before being called back for the 2013-14 season.
Since making his return, the midfielder has earned Player of the Month honours in October, November and December of 2013 and March of 2014.
Carvalho has also secured his spot on Paulo Bento’s Portuguese national team squad, where he is expected to be in the starting line-up for the 2014 World Cup, feeding the ball to what could possibly be his future club teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo.
