Cebolla: I have to go, it’s not that I want to go
Atletico Madrid midfielder, Cristian ‘Cebolla’ Rodriguez will likely miss Sunday’s match against Levante with a muscle problem suffered in Tuesday’s win over Chelsea, but despite the recent injury, the Uruguaian all but confirmed that he will leave the club this summer.
In an interview with Sport 890, Cebolla stressed that life as a Colchonero is fantastic, especially with their success this season and hopes to wrap up the championship very soon.
“What we are living through with Atletico is amazing. You go out on the street and you see all the kids wearing our shirt. The team holds nothing back, we all run and that’s the best. We have no Messi or Cristiano, but we are all committed. Hopefully, we can be champions in both competitions. It’d be nice to go to Barcelona as La Liga champions and they give us the Guard of Honour.”
Cebolla went on to add that despite all of the success, he will leave the club this summer in order to get consistent playing time.
“Every players wants to play and what I want is that can give me more minutes, where I can be a starter, a team that relies more on me. I have to go, it’s not that I want to go. I am very comfortable in Madrid. At my age, ideally, I have to play more. If I stay another year, the same thing is going to repeat itself and my idea is to leave.”
