Malaga have reportedly elected former Real Betis and current West Bromwich Albion manager, Pepe Mel has the man to replace Bernd Schuster, should the Andalusian club chose to end the German’s one-year stint with the club.

According to Malaga Hoy, Malaga are unsure about the future of Schuster with the club, after the German called out his team for their lack of desire in last Saturday’s loss to direct rival, Elche and with Schuster  reportedly being courted by German side, Eintrach Frankfurt, Malaga have formulated a back-up plan.

Mel appears to be in the same situation as Schuster, as both have no preformed as well as expected, but the former striker only signed a six-month contract with West Brom this past December with only an option for a second season, something the club could opt not to pick up.

Schuster’s contract is automatically re-upped if they finish in the Top 10, which after Saturday’s loss seems far from likely, while Malaga have reportedly not forgotten the words of support they received from Mel, when the club was in the middle of liquidating assets to pay the Spanish tax authority.

Mel would also be instrumental in bringing Malaga transfer target, Ruben Castro, from Betis to La Rosaleda.
