Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta had understandable difficulty explaining his emotions, after his side were held by Atlético Madrid at the Camp Nou, meaning Simeone’s side take the title.

Immediately after the final whistle and speaking with GOL TV, Andrés Iniesta first offered his congratulations to Atlético Madrid, but trying to describe his emotions on the part of Barcelona, as could be expected, found it a bitter pill to swallow in the heat of the moment.

“Congratulations to Atléti, they’re fair champions… We’ve failed, like everyone else. We had options just like they did into the final game. They were better and there’s not much else I can say. We’re hurting for having lost La Liga in the final game of the season.”

Crestfallen that his side haven’t won any silverware this season, what disappointed Iniesta most of all was that the game was there for the taking.

“We were relying on winning this game. We haven’t and that makes this season disappointing, because if we had won, everything would be different. The season is over, lots of things are over.”
