Azpilicueta: I’ll fight for the starting spot, I’m ambitious

Chelsea and Spanish international full back, Cesar Azpilicueta insists that he will fight for his starting spot in the Spanish national team after Friday evening’s successful 2-0 win over Bolivia in Sevilla.

In his post-match interview, Azpilicueta spoke about the win and his role on the team.

“I’m trying to do the best job I possibly can, it was a game that had plenty of scoring chances and we scored two.  The team looked good.

“This year I played at left-back, the manager feels that I’ll help the team in this position and I’m happy, I can help out in a multitude of positions.  I’ll play wherever the manager wants me.

“I have to wait to see if I made the final list, we’re all very excited and I’m very happy for what is on the horizon.  If I’m fortunate enough to go to Brazil, it’s only natural that I’ll fight for a starting spot.  I’m ambitious and I always want to play more.

“I’m coming from playing with the national team since I was 15 or 16, making the first team is the dream of every player who starts out in the lower tiers, it’s a dream to make it to the World Cup.  I hope everyone comes in the best form possible.”

Azpilicueta spoke about Spain being the favourites in the World Cup.

“We are the reigning champions and Brazil is playing at home and are the Confederations Cup champions.  All of the best teams play in the World Cup.”
