Athletic Club officially sign Alaves striker Borja Viguera
After months of rumors, Athletic Club Bilbao have officially signed Alaves striker Borja Viguera, meeting the 27-year-old’s buy-out clause of €1 million, making him the club’s first purchase of the summer.
For the past six months, rumors have constantly linked Alaves striker Borja Viguera with a move to Athletic Club and the move has just been made official.
According to Basque paper El Correo, Athletic met the player’s buy-out clause of €1 million on Thursday afternoon after it was clear that Alaves would not negotiate a cheaper price for their start striker.
The report goes on to reveal that club will officially present Viguera as the newest Athletic player at some point tomorrow.
Spanish daily paper AS has also confirmed the deal, stating that Viguera passed his medical at the Athletic facilities on Thursday to finalize the deal.
Alaves had made it clear in recent days that Viguera would be leaving the club this summer, but refused to give any hints on where he could end up, though the 27-year-old was openly excited about a possible move to the San Mames this summer.
Other clubs, such as Malaga, were also interested in signing the striker, but Champions League play was a big factor in his decision making.
Viguera led the Segunda in scoring this season with 25 goals, and has found the back of the net over 40 times in his two seasons at Alaves.
