Celta Vigo and Jonathan Vila have mutually decided to rescind the 28-year-old’s contract with the club, ending his 14-year career with the Galician side and becoming a free agent.

Celta announced the decision on Tuesday, after the player spent the second half of last season on loan at Beitar Jerusalem.

“[Vila’s] dedication, sacrifice and commitment to the club has always been one of its hallmarks, qualities that add to his unwavering professionalism and humanity. Celta want to wish him the utmost success, both professionally and personally, and he’ll leave lasting and fond memories with the club.”

Vila was promoted by former manager Fernando Vazquez in 2006 and has spent the entirety of his career with the club, but an injury just before their promotion to the Primera, saw the midfielder lose his place and fall out of favour with then manager, Luis Enrique.

Vila made 124 first team appearances with the club  in the 8 years since his promotion.
