Portuguese midfielder, Tiago Mendes has decided to resign with Atletico Madrid for the next two seasons.

Tiago appeared to be set to rejoin Chelsea after his contract expired at the end of a successful 2013-14 season, but the 33-year-old has decided not to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge and return to the Vicente Calderon.

Prior to this past weekend, it was assumed that Tiago would be going back to Chelsea, but reports began to surface that the midfielder was in talks to join La Liga side, Valencia.

However, Mendes turned down the offer from Los Che and decided to sign on for two more years at Atleti.

After signing his new contract Tiago will now rejoin the squad at their pre-season camp in Los Ángeles de San Rafael in Segovia and embark on his fifth season with Los Colchoneros.
