Real Madrid attacking midfielder, James Rodríguez recently spoke about fulfilling his “boyhood dream” and signing for Los Blancos, while also admitting that he idolised Zinedine Zidane and wants his Colombian international teammate, Radamel Falcao to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In an interview with AS and Radio Carcacol, James first spoke about the joy of signing and his preference for Real Madrid, even as a child.

“I’m happy because being here is a dream come true.  Hopefully everything goes well.  I’m very excited and looking forward to it.  I want to win titles at this great club.

“I have been a fan of Real Madrid when they had Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo, Los Galacticos.  I’ve followed Madrid since childhood.  And loved Zidane, he gave me a special feeling.

“I never wanted to be like anyone.  I admired players, but I didn’t want to be like them.  In that respect, I liked Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo…They were different from the rest.  I admire many players now too.”

James then spoke about the process of signing for Real Madrid.

“Ever since I knew that Madrid wanted me, I did everything in my power to go. We spoke about it awhile ago, but nothing was set in stone.  A month ago, they officially wanted me.  They are a big club and that means you have to be at a very high level.  I look ready, but come with great humility.

“Madrid always follows the good players that stand out.  When you have the chance to go, you take it.  They had been following me and when I had an excellent World Cup, that’s when they bought me.  They know when to buy players.  During the World Cup, they were already talking about signing me, but I was calm.  I wanted to win and do well with Colombia.  I wasn’t pressured, just the opposite, it motivated me to win.”

James went on to discuss the praise he received and his thoughts on where he will play for Carlo Ancelotti.

“I’ll play where the coach wants.  I can play on the right or left wing or attacking midfielder.  I’ll try to earn my place alongside these great players I have by my side.

“I hope I’m a starter, I have to earn my place.  There are players who have spent years there and I have to respect that.

“My presentation was a special day.  One doesn’t experience something like that every day.  Going out on a stage and seeing so many people…I’ll never forget that.  I want to make history with Madrid.

“Wearing the number 10 is massive.  It’s something that with it carries a lot of pressure.  I hope I can carry this number responsibly.”

James went on to discuss the possibility of being reunited with his former Monaco and current Colombian international teammate, Radamel Falcao.

“I’m sure he can play there.  But I’m not the one who decides whether or not he’s going.  It’s up to the president.  It may be because he has quality and a winning attitude.

“I’ve been playing with him for four years.  The only break was when he went to Atletico.  He has a winning mentality and that’s what you want at Madrid.  Hopefully he can come.”

James concluded by confirming that he will now fly out and meet his new teammates and begin his journey.

“I travel tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday I will be training with them.  I’ll be ready to play once I’ve had a good pre-season.  Nine, ten, twelve days… When Ancelotti says it, I’ll be ready.  I want to tell the Madridistas that I will always give my all and if they support us, we will win many titles.”
