Mario Suarez: The lack of goals is not a worry

Atletico Madrid have scored just one goal in open play during their preseason, but midfielder Mario Suarez stresses the team is not concerned and is preparing well for their defence of the league title.

The Spanish champions were held to their third 0-0 draw in as many games against Galatasaray last night, but Mario Suarez was positive in his post-match interview and expects the goals to return soon.

“I am not concerned. It is a matter of time. We dominated and had had more opportunities to score.

The Rojiblanco enforcer noted that the team is defending well, while slowly rebuilding an attack which was so heavily built around striker Diego Costa last season.

“We still have games and players up front who are yet to return. We missed [Antoine] Griezmann… and it was only the second game for [Mario] Mandzukic. We are working hard and the team is creating chances, which is the important thing.”

When asked about Atleti’s Supercopa tie with Real Madrid which is to be played on the 19th and 22nd of August, Suarez insisted the team is calm.

“There is a lot of time. The team is going well and feeling good. In defence we have the same commitment and seriousness as always and in attack we feel good and the goals will come.”
