After much speculation, it appears that AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao will indeed join Real Madrid this summer, in a move that has been rumoured for the past two years.
In an interview with ESPN, reputable Spanish football journalist Sid Lowe announced that he believes Falcao will join Real Madrid this summer and that there are only a few minor details that needs to be worked out, mainly what is to happen with Angel Di Maria, before the two sides finally announce the deal.
“I think the likelihood is that it (Falcao to Real Madrid) will happen this summer. I’d be very, very surprised if it doesn’t happen, there seem to be one or two things still waiting to be confirmed before this deal goes ahead. To give you an example of a number of the reasons why we think this will happen, is that it’s been talked about quite openly, albeit not publicly, around Real Madrid about where Falcao fits into the team, if and when the deal finally happens. Manchester United have been told that there is no point in trying to sign him because he is going to Real Madrid. I think they’ll be waiting to see what happens with Angel Di Maria before they finally commit, but I will be very surprised if the window closes and Falcao is not a Real Madrid player.”
Falcao has been linked with Real Madrid even after signing his former Monaco and current Colombian national teammate, James Rodriguez and will come in an compete with Karim Benzema, who just signed a long-term contract extension.
