At his presentation press conference on Monday, 27-year-old Cristian Ansaldi enthused about the prospect of making his competitive debut, against Real Madrid in the Spanish SuperCopa.

“To start with, our first game is against Real Madrid. In Argentina we call this a Clásico, but here you call it a derby and it’s a game we want to win. Our team ended up as champions last season and we want to do the same thing this season.”

Whilst he doesn’t know if he’ll start against Real Madrid yet, Ansaldi feels confident that whether he does or Siqueira, they’re both ready for the challenges their opponents will pose.

“Whether I play or Siqueira plays, we’ll both do so full of enthusiasm. We’ll be facing great players, but that’s something we’ve both been preparing a long time for. We’ve had a good pre-season and we know what we’re going to be facing.”

Ansaldi is also aware that the Atlético fans will be keen to see their side win the Madrid derby against their fierce city rivals, but doesn’t believe they’re out to avenge the Champions League final defeat.

“Since I arrived, I know full well what this game means for Atlético, but what’s past is past. The aim for all of us is just to start the season well.”

Questioned about why he opted for the move to Atlético Madrid, the Argentine player explained that he couldn’t miss the opportunity to play in La Liga.

“I’ve been in Russia, I’ve matured and I have more experience, but I needed new challenges. I’ve come to the best league and I believe I can do well here.”
