Arsenal monitoring Sami Khedira’s status as they await word on Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close watch on any transfer related activity involving Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, as they could possibly launch a last-minute bid depending on the status of captain Mikel Arteta, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are concerned that Mikel Arteta’s injured ankle, suffered in their recent tie against Besiktas could force the Basque star to miss more than two weeks and have lined up Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho and Sami Khedira as possible last minute replacements.

The report goes on to add that the involvement of third-party ownership is illegal in England and could complicate the transfer of Carvalho, while the club is looking at Khedira, who is seemingly on the outs at Real Madrid.

Khedira hasn’t formally submitted a transfer request, but has yet to play in a single pre-season match.

Arsenal are hoping Real Madrid drops their asking price and allows the 27-year-old World Cup champion to make a move to London before the close of the transfer window in 9 days.
