Espanyol manager Mauricio Pochettino has turned down an offer from Sampdoria for three times more than his current salary, in favour of remaining with the Blanquiazul.

Despite the Italian’s club lucrative offer, Pochettino has resisted temptation and decided to remain with Espanyol and continue his work at Cornella-El Prat.

A press conference was called at the stadium to announce Pochettino will remain at the club, and also address the fans and players.

“There has been interest in me, but I have rejected the offers. There has been much uncertainty and has not been good for the club or the people.

“I will remain the manager of Espanyol, there was never any doubt and I followed my heart and it led me here.”

Pochettino made 275 apperances for Espanyol from 1994-2000 and 2004-2006 as a player, and has been the head coach since 2009.
