Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez played the last game of his career on the Camp Nou pitch and rather than lift the Copa del Rey title by himself, he brought his long-time teammate Andres Iniesta to join him, making the moment all the more special.

In his post-match interview via the club’s website, Xavi spoke about the win over Athletic which started with the opening goal by Leo Messi in the 20th minute and stressed that he was happy to get a chance to say goodbye and lift the Cup with Iniesta.

“I wanted to lift the Cup with Andres, I’m happy we could do it.

“I’m happy not only because we won, but because I played almost the entire second half.”

Xavi went on to praise Leo Messi, and stated that his 20th minute goal could quite possibly be the greatest of his career.

“Messi’s first goal was scandalous, awesome. I think it’s one of the best goals he’s ever scored.”

The Captain went on to add that while the team is brimming with confidence, they must exercise caution, as they still have an intense 90 minute Champions League final against Juventus before they can lay claim to the treble.

“We have absolute confidence right now, but we must be cautious. Juventus is a great team, but we’re very good and very confident.”
