Xavi explains angry Neymar row during Champions League parade
Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez was recently seen berating Brazilian teammate Neymar during their Champions League parade, grabbing the 23-year-old’s face and getting physical and the 35-year-old has finally shed light on the row.
In an interview with Barcelona-based sports daily SPORT via MARCA, Xavi explained that Neymar had had one too many beers from the night before and continued during the parade and the reason he got so physical with the Brazilian national team captain was in an effort to teach him a final lesson and focus on the fans who came out to support the team.
“They were trying to take my shoes off and were pushing me when I was standing on the edge of the bus. I told them to stop messing around and to focus on the fans, since the parade is for them. It’s alright to have three or four beers, but the parade is for the supporters, to thank them, and you can’t just be in your own world”
Xavi was forced to look after Neymar several weeks ago as well, when the winger tried to pull off a fancy move in the final minutes of the Copa del Rey final when Barcelona had the lead well in hand, sparking the ire of the Athletic Club players and fans.
Xavi swooped in and stepped in between Neymar and the Athletic players to avoid incident and guide Neymar to safety.
