Casado: Darder won’t be joining Olympique Lyon
Malaga sporting director Vicente Casado has confirmed that the club has ended negotiations with French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon over the transfer of Sergi Darder.
In an interview with AS, Casado responded to comments made by Josep Maria Minguella, the agent of Sergi Darder, who stated that the club doesn’t value the midfielder, dismissing the claim and confirming that Darder will not be leaving the club for Olympique Lyon.
“The player isn’t leaving for Olympique Lyon. We’re convinced that Sergi will soon be at 100%, physically as well as mentally, because he’s a great professional and great person. I don’t want to get into a war of words, it does me no favours to dismiss someone else’s opinions. It’s not worth a single minute of my time. We’re in a very exciting time as a club ahead of a great challenge in the season ahead, in the greatest league in the world.”
Casado went on to add that Lyon were informed earlier this week that the negotiations were ending and that the player, especially for the €10 million they were offering, would not be leaving the club.
The loyal fans have also been spared from another gut-wrenching departure of one of their brightest stars, who have seen Samu, Samuel, Juanmi and Sergio Sanchez leave the club this summer, in addition to veteran Roque Santa Cruz, who made a big money move to Mexico right after the season.
