New Sevilla midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli feels that his side are much more confident after barely losing the UEFA Super Cup to Barcelona last week and feels that it will bode well as they head into a La Liga and Champions League campaign full of expectation.

In an interview with the media following Wednesday’s training, Krohn-Dehli spoke about the team’s mindset, attitude and motivation following their UEFA Super Cup loss, where they lost to Barcelona in extra time and how they’ll use it in their La Liga opener against Malaga at La Rosaleda on Friday evening.

“The team is very keen to get La Liga off to a good start.  It’s a difficult match for us and on the road, but the team is doing well, we’ve worked very hard this pre-season and after the game against Barcelona, I think we’ve had a boost in confidence.”

As one of the newer players, Krohn-Dehli admitted that there is a lot of competition between the new signings and the players who’ve been at the club throughout their successful Europa League title campaigns, but feels it’s best for the team to have great internal competition.

“There’s a lot of competition, but that’s only when it comes to the level of the training session and for a footballer, it’s better when the team is more competitive.”

The Danish international went on to add that they must prove that they can improve upon last season and be consistent throughout the campaign or they run the risk of falling against their closest competitors.

“We can’t just say we’re a good team, we have to prove it.

“Every team is eager to play, the points are for real now and there’s a lot of pressure, but that’s football.  We have a lot of great players, but there are a lot of newcomers and we have to think like a team.  We don’t have much time but I think we’re fit to start La Liga.

“Our competition is Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal.”
