Roque Santa Cruz re-joins Malaga on loan
Cruz Azul striker Roque Santa Cruz has re-joined Malaga on a season-long loan, just eight months after originally leaving the club to join the Mexican side.
On 30th December, Malaga confirmed the transfer of Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz to Mexican side Cruz Azul, after the 33-year-old flew to Mexico City to undergo his medical immediately following their win over Elche.
Santa Cruz made just 10 Liga MX appearances for Cruz Azul, scoring four goals but the veteran was not featured as much as he’d expected and has decided to come back “home”, where Malaga were waiting with open arms.
Santa Cruz was a crucial part of Malaga’s first-half success last season but the team lost their edge without the Paraguayan international in the dressing room or on the pitch in the second half of the 2014-15 season, causing the Andalusians to just barely miss out on the Europa League.
On Wednesday evening, Malaga announced that they had reached an agreement with Cruz Azul to bring the striker back to La Rosaleda on a season-long loan, where they are hoping he will add to the 21 goals he scored for the club during his two-and-a-half seasons.
