Olympique Lyon confirm €12m signing of Malaga’s Sergi Darder
French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon confirmed the signing of Malaga midfielder Sergi Darder on a five-year deal for a fee of €12 million.
Malaga and Lyon have been negotiating the transfer of the Mallorcan midfielder for the past two months and the two sides finally reached an agreement on Monday morning.
Malaga and Lyon appeared to have reached an agreement several weeks ago, but the deal then fell through due to the French club’s unwillingness to meet the Andalusian’s asking price.
However, despite Malaga sporting director Vicente Casado insisting that Darder was not for sale and would remain with the club for the upcoming season, Malaga reached an agreement with AC Milan over the two-year long loan for AC Milan’s 17-year-old prodigy Hachim Mastour, allowing the club to accept Lyon’s renewed offer of €12 million, €2 million more than their original asking price.
Darder, upon signing his new five-year deal, stated that he feels Lyon is the “ideal club” to continue his progression in his career and is looking forward to playing Champions League football with the French giants.
