RFEF worried Pique whistles may escalate in England friendly at Santiago Bernabeu

Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique has been subjected to boos and whistles from the crowd in Spain’s recent matches since the defender mocked Real Madrid following their treble win.

Following Barcelona’s treble win, Pique thanked reggeaton singer Kevin Roldan, who was seen at Cristiano Ronald’s birthday party and distributing photos on social media, which coincided with the team’s downfall.

“Thank you Kevin Roldan, you started it all!”

The innocent jab sparked hate for the defender, forcing the player to boos, whistles and jeers in Spain’s game in June in near-by Leon and again on Saturday evening in Oviedo.

According to AS, RFEF is concerned that it may reach a head when Spain host England on November 14th at the Santiago Bernabeu, home of the Real Madrid side that Pique mocked in his speech.

Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque, as well as Pique’s teammates and La Roja captain Iker Casillas, have all rushed to defend the Catalan star and have urged the fans to stop whistling the World Cup winner and get over the incident, that spread like wildfire as the Spanish media took hold of the story.

The real test will be in next month’s Euro 2016 qualifying match against Luxembourg, where La Roja will play in Logroño and gauge the reactions of the fans towards Pique.
