Javi Gracia: We must find a way to score goals
Malaga manager Javi Gracia bemoaned his side’s inability to put the ball in the back of the net as his side continued their goalless run in a 0-1 loss to Villarreal on Wednesday evening.
In his post-match press conference, Gracia spoke about his side’s inability to score a single goal five weeks into the 2015-16 season and admits that while he is very concerned about his attack, he found solace in the fact that it is only the fifth week in a 38 week season and there is still time to change their fortunes.
“I see this match and the harsh reality of our situation, with the optimism that we’re only on the fifth game of the season. This encourages me that we are capable of changing this dynamic.
“It’s tough as every day that passes is another opportunity lost, an opportunity for which we’ve been preparing with great enthusiasm. You want to see if you’re capable of scoring this time, capable of winning…
“I must be concerned as we need to find a way to correct and improve on our lack of goals.”
Gracia states that it is difficult to find positives when the team losses by a score of 0-1 from an individual error scoring an own goal, but has faith in his team’s ability and their commitment to turning things around.
“It’s difficult after a game like this to find something positive. However the value of the team is always emphasized, as our fans are always behind us to spur us on.”
Gracia concluded by praising the fans who continue to support the club through not just a difficult start to this season, but a difficult three years since Manuel Pellegrini left La Rosaleda and hopes that they can finally deliver a win and points to the supporters.
“We hope to give them the match they deserve as soon as possible; a reward of better play and good results, so we’ll all be more relaxed and can enjoy the season.”
