In his post-match interview, Aspas praised his side for their incredible performance over the former La Liga leaders and reigning La Liga champions, while adding that beating the Champions League winners is an impressive feat in and of itself.

“We lept over Barcelona.  We played an incredible game, we were better in every situation and we totally deserve the win. The team is coming off a great performance at the Sanchez Pizjuan and today, against the Champions of Europe, we came out and played a great game yet again.

“You can never relax against Barcelona until the game is over because you never know what’ll happen.  But we put in a tremendous effort.  We put a lot of pressure on them in defence, which forced them to give up the ball and let us fly down the wings on the counter attack”

Aspas went on to discuss his own personal performance, stating that the two goals scored on Wednesday will serve to boost his confidence and that of the team.

“The two goals will give me confidence because I haven’t been able to score at Balaidos.  I feel very loved her with my fans, which is what I was looking for when I decided to come back to Celta.”

Aspas concluded by arguing that despite their current points total, the team is not looking toward European competition next season, but will continue working diligently to secure survival and then think about the future.

“It’s good that there’s excitement but the priority is to earn 40 or 42 points to guarantee survival.  Once we reach that amount, then we can start dreaming about better things.”

Aspas will look to continue goal-scoring form at Celta Vigo travel to Eibar to take on the Basque minnows this weekend as they look to maintain their lead in the La Liga table.
