Chelsea target La Liga defensive duo
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is considering a double swoop this January for Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal and Barcelona’s Dani Alves.
The Premier League champions have a close eye on the Galactico’s first choice right back and an experienced Barcelona man. Both moves could be a smart piece of business for London club this winter.
Target 1: Daniel Carvajal
Carvajal, 23, arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu shortly after Mourinho’s exit to his beloved Chelsea. He has since cemented his place in Real Madrid’s starting 11, making the right back position his own, with Alvaro Arbeloa, 32, dropping to the bench. Becoming one of the hot young defensive prospects in Europe, he was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £7.5 million in 2013 where he was voted as one of the top 3 right backs at the time in the Bundesliga behind Phillip Lahm and Atsuto Uchida. However, since the arrival of Danilo from FC Porto, the young Spaniard now has competition on his hands.
Target 2: Dani Alves
One of La Liga’s longest servants, Dani Alves is another name noted by Mourinho who could replace Serbian right back Bratislav Ivanovic. Ivanovic, 31, hasn’t lived up to expectations this season for Chelsea as they have conceded the most goals in the Premier League so far. Alves would be a great option; he is experienced and has rote himself in Barcelona’s tapestry for years due to his world-class displays. With the recent arrival of Aleix Vidal (who is only eligible to play in January) and Douglas waiting in the wings, a move too Stamford Bridge could be on the cards for the 32-year old.
