Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Osasuna: Athletic climb out of the bottom three

Athletic Bilbao made up for last week`s Basque derby loss to Real Sociedad last week by winning this week`s Basque derby 1-0 against Osasuna.

While it may have seemed like an inconsequential move this summer, Aritz Aduriz` return to the San Mames from Valencia has proven to be the sole reason this squad is not in last place.

This was a crucial match for both squads, as both were desperate to gain three points and emerge from the relegation zone, not to mention doing it in front of an incredible San Mames crowd.

Osasuna got started early with a barrage of shots, but were held at bay by a strong Athletic defence.

It only took one shot for Athletic to jump out on top, with an Oscar De Marcos cross hitting, who else but Artiz Aduriz for a right footed shot in the back of the net.

From that point on Athletic continued attacking Osasuna, but to no avail, while their defense kept Osasuna from reaching the goal.

After the break, both sides were aggressive, as Osasuna had an air of desperation, but Athletic`s defence held strong, capturing three points in a must win match that sees them in 16th place and Osasuna one spot from the bottom.
