Barcelona centre-back, Andreu Fontas has reportedly informed the club that he wished to leave the club on loan during the January transfer window, as he looks to gain first team minutes following his successful knee surgery.

Fontas, who had surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament in January 2012, has yet to receive first-team minutes despite being fully recovered from the injury

Barcelona has been short on centre-backs, yet Fontas has yet to receive any minutes as a replacement for Gerard Pique or Carles Puyol, as manager Tito Vilanova has opted to use converted defensive midfielders, Javier Mascherano and Alex Song as the first options.

Therefore, according to Catalan radio station, RAC1, the Catalan and Barcelona has agreed the best thing for his career would be for Fontas to leave in order to get consistent minutes, with the hope that he would be the primary sub, should either Pique or Puyol fall victim to injury.

The 22-year-old La Masia graduate was promoted to the first-team in March 2011, after left-back; Eric Abidal was diagnosed with a tumour on his liver, but only made eight appearances for the Blaugrana.
