Heynckes: Lille`s win might’ve kept us from giving 100%

Bayern Munich manager, Jupp Heynckes admitted that the Lille`s win over BATE earlier in the evening, thus guaranteeing the Bavarians a guaranteed spot in the next round, could have played into the team`s performance in a 1-1 draw with Valencia at La Mestalla on Tuesday evening.

In his post-match press conference, Heynckes analysed the match and stated that his squad must improve while giving praise to Valencia.

“Valencia defended very well, we could not find space, which gives us homework for the next match.  Valencia played at a very high level, but it was a very even match.  They showed that they players can play to their fullest.

“Bayern can and will improve.  Lille`s win might’ve influenced our performance, which is why, perhaps, we didn`t play at 100%.  Valencia is one of the three biggest clubs in Spain and are never easy.  They had a very good performance.”
