RCD Mallorca made a promising start to the season, going unbeaten in their opening five matches. Following a 1-0 defeat away at Getafe though, they’ve spiralled downwards on a terrible run, which has seen them lose seven of their last eight matches, with only a point gained from a draw away at Celta Vigo.
Losing 2-0 away at Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, the fortunes of the Balearic club don’t seam to have improved, much to the frustration of both the fans and the manager.
For the moment though, whilst many managers would be looking over their shoulder following such a bad run of results, Caparrós currently has the support of the Mallorca board, who believe he’s still the right man and will turn things around.
In spite of the vocal support of the board at the moment however, the pressure could mount come the half-way point in the season, if Mallorca continue to slide towards the relegation zone. If results haven’t improved, the board may find themselves looking for change at the helm during the January transfer window, allowing a new manager input in any transfer dealings.
In December Mallorca face Real Zaragoza (H), Levante (A), Athletic Club Bilbao (H) and Real Betis (A). Four fixtures which could shape the destiny of the team and the fate of the manager.
