Ozil: We still play Barcelona, anything is possible in football

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil believes the title race is not over and that ‘anything is possible in football’ despite being 11 points behind Barcelona.

Germany international Ozil, 24, was on the score sheet for Madrid as they beat city neighbours Atletico on Saturday night to move within six points of them and 11 points of league leaders Barcelona.

“Every day in training, I see how we work and the potential that our team has and how much ambition we all have to be successful again,” he told Kicker magazine.

“If we can bring that quality as a team on the pitch, we are unbeatable.

“We still play them [Barcelona] at home. Everything is possible in football.”

Madrid take on Ajax in their final group game in the Champions League and having already qualified for the next round Ozil believes his side can win the competition this season.

“We have reached the knockout stages now,” he said. “The last two years, we got beaten by Barcelona and Munich in the semi-finals.

“Those were close games. Everyone on our team wants to bring that trophy to Madrid. I hope we can do it this year.”
