After taking his time to assess all available options for a new Sporting Director, Espanyol President Joan Collett has decided to ‘stay at home’ and has appointed Oscar Perarnau to the role.

perarnauTwo weeks ago, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, the then sporting director Ramon Planes was relieved of his position. President Joan Collet took time to evaluate several options and in the end decided to promote from within.

Oscar Perarnau is very well respected in the game and he will now be entirely responsible to manage the ups and downs of the Barcelona based team, which, given their current predicament, will be no easy task.

Quiet, thoughtful and intense, the new man learnt his craft at all levels of the game from grass roots upwards, always achieving excellent results.

Perarnau also studied sports management for a number of years, analyzing any candidates that arrived at Espanyol, albeit until now the final decision was made by Planes and Pochettino.

There will be an official presentation of Perarnau which is to be held on Thursday at 16:30 in the auditorium of the Cornella-El Prat with President Joan Collet.
