In a game of few clear chances it would take a quality finish to seal the points. Up stepped substitute Adrián to do just that.

Atleti-Celta koke hits postThe first-half saw few chances, though the best of them came for Atlético Madrid, whilst Aspas seemed isolated up-front for Celta Vigo, who seemed more intent on defending.

A killer ball from Arda Turan gave Diego Costa a great chance in the 10th minute, but what looked a certain goal, was blocked by the leg of Celta Vigo defender Túñez for a corner. Barely a moment later, Koke was unlucky when his shot struck the post in the 11th minute.

A great cross from Juanfran went behind the Celta Vigo defenders in the 27th minute, but also missed the outstretched boot of Diego Costa. No clearer chances would arrive in the remainder of the half though and not a single shot on goal from the visitors.

As the game wore on in the second-half, it seemed like neither side could break the deadlock, or create any clear chances at goal. With the clock ticking, both managers tried shuffling the pack. Celta Vigo with two changes, whilst Simeone used all his subs. One of them would ultimately make the difference.

Replacing Diego Costa in the 71st minute, it only took Adrián six minutes to make his mark. A scorcher from the edge of the area in the 77th minute. A few moments later, Falcao picked up a booking for a late challenge, that will see him suspended, having accumulated bookings in previous games.

Having already been booked earlier in the game, a handball from Miranda on the edge of the area, saw him get a red card and Atlético were down to ten men. They managed to hold out though and 2012 sees Atlético maintain their superb home record this season, having won all nine games at fortress Calderón.
