Amidst a turbulent season for Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, which has lead to numerous candidates being mentioned as replacements at the end of the season, one of those mentioned refused to add to the speculation.
According to Spanish national newspaper El Pais recently, Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane had prompted Club President Florentino Pérez to make a move for his former Juventus manager.
Currently managing one of Chinese team Guangzhou Evergrande, where he has secured a league and cup double, Marcello Lippi has enjoyed an extensive and trophy laden career. Now 64 though, it’s thought that his lucrative job with the Chinese champions will be the last of his career, being the only time he’s managed outside Italy.
Appearing to rebuff the speculation, Lippi said: “There is nothing concrete with Real Madrid. Me to replace Mourino? Nothing is certain. I have a contract with Guangzhou for two years and I’m very happy here in every way.”
