An exercise in damage limitation from Getafe, the contest already all but decided in favour of Atlético, following their three goal lead from the first-leg.

Effectively over as a contest following the first-leg, little was expected from either team ahead of the game at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez tonight.
With seemingly little impetus from the home side, it was Atlético with the better of the early chances. A cross from Falcao was headed for Arda Turan in front of goal in the 13th minute, but Getafe defender Rafa managed to get their first, clearing for a corner.
A few minutes later, following a challenge with Atlético full-back Juanfran, Lafita left the pitch on a stretcher and was unable to continue. A blow for both the player and Getafe, with what looked like a knee injury.
With little real flow to the game, though with Atlético seemingly in control of proceedings, Getafe fired a warning shot after twenty minutes. A long cross found a connection from Alcácer, but it was comfortably held by Courtois. More chances started to arrive, but they were all from Atlético. Rodríguez with a speculative chance that went wide, followed by Raúl García with good skill inside the area to make himself space, but was unlucky with the finish.
Continuing to push forward, Falcao found himself breaking through the Getafe back line, only to be brought to ground by Rafa in the 32nd minute. Showing studs in the challenge, referee Pérez Montero had no alternative to produce a straight red card for the dangerousl foul and the hosts were down to ten men.
With Getafa seemingly in damage limitation mode and defending deep, the only chance that came was inevitably from Atlético, but Raúl García couldn’t take it. Stifling the space, only speculative punts at goal from distance, from a more defensive minded Getafe.
The first ten minutes of the second-half commenced pretty much as it had left off, before good work from Falcao opened up a chance for Arda Turan, only for the Turk to blaze his effort over. Shortly after, saving the Colombian striker for another and perhaps more important day, Diego Simeone swapped Falcao for Diego Costa in the 60th minute.
A man light, all that Getafe could do was mark the spaces, as Atlético seemed content just to pass the ball around, patiently waiting for their chances. When they came though, there was little accuracy with the final touches and final passes. The best chance of the second-half eventually came in the 75th minute via a defence splitting pass from Diego Costa, but receiving the ball with space and time to finish, Raúl García fluffed his effort wide.
With little real effort from either side towards the end, the outcome unsurprisingly ended in a goal-less draw. Atético head through to the next round, where the winner of Real Betis versus Las Palmas will await.
