Simeone: Atletico’s first half was almost perfect

Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone was elated by his side’s 2-0 win over Real Zaragoza on Sunday evening, stating that his team played an “incredible” match and that the first half was “almost perfect.”

diego-simeoneIn his post-match press conference, Simeone praised striker, Diego Costa, who turned in what many, including Simeone, feel was one of his best performances of the season.

“Stopping to look at these things it’s not completely good for us. Valuing what we saw today is, though, it was a really good match. The first half was almost perfect, with pressure in their half, chances for the forwards high up the pitch, and an extraordinary Diego Costa.

“Costa’s match, in the first half was incredible. The team was obsessed about winning and they showed that; I think that’s why they got the win.

“We always expect the best. And evidently the last campaign was really good and we had the chance to do big things in pre-season. With the exception of Diego, hardly anybody left us and players came in to strengthen the group and the team, and that’s where we are. I think the team keeps showing a clear identity, beyond the fact of playing better or worse, with that identity they’ve come to the end of a big first half of the season.”

Simeone was then asked about the presence of Rayo Vallecano striker, Leo Baptistão, who according to many reports, has already agreed to a move to the Vicente Calderon this summer and was in attendance for Sunday’s match.

“I prefer to talk about the players that are in the squad at the moment, who are always more important than the people who could arrive, even if they’re good players.”
