Barcelona step up move to sign Guaita
Barcelona have this week stepped up their efforts to sign Valencia keeper Vicente Guaita after Victor Valdes looks set to leave the club.
The club’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is developing a list of high-profile keepers to replace Valdes, who now looks increasingly likely to leave the Catalan club either this summer or next when his contract expires.
Premier League side Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Valdes and Kike Marin of Spanish newspaper, Voz Populi, believes the Catalan keeper has all but agreed a four-year deal with the Gunners.
That leaves Barca to make a move for number one keeper on Zubizarreta’s list – Vicente Guaita and the club are keen to approach financially troubled Valencia come the end of the season.
Guaita recently extended his contract at Mestalla until June 2015, with his release clause currently standing at €30 million but Barca remain convinced they will allow him to leave for half of that figure.
