Malaga 0-0 Atletico Madrid : Simeone misses out on debut win

Diego Simeone’s first game in charge of Atletico Madrid ended in a goalless draw against Malaga on Saturday evening.

It was Argentine coach Simeone’s first game in charge since taking over from Gregorio Manzano and his side looked a lot more calm and organised to secure one point in Malaga.

It was the home side who started better and controlled the game for large periods, Diego Buonanotte came closest on seven minutes but saw his shot saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois has been a perfect replacement for former keeper David De Gea who left the club last summer and he was on hand again moments later to stop Jose Rondon’s close range header.

Atletico came closest on the half-hour mark when Diego rattled the crossbar and they would also narrowly miss out when Diego Godin’s header was cleared off the line by Santi Cazorla.

The draw lifts Atletico up to ninth whilst Malaga stay fifth.
