Getafe 2-2 Almeria: A heartbreaking Castro penalty steals three from Almeria
Almeria and Getafe came in looking to avenge their opening round losses and earn three points against an equal opponent.
Alemeria put on a fantastic show in their 2-3 loss to Villarreal in week one and were looked upon as the favourites in the away match, as Getafe were highly criticised for their lack of transfers into the club and multiude of stars leaving, which left a squad in need of depth and reinforcements.
Getafe were the aggresors in the beginning but it was Almeria who dominated possesion for most of the first half.
All the possession paid off as Suso found Rodri, who added another goal on his way to the Pichichi!
However, Getafe came back a minute later as a Pablo Sarabia cross found Angel Lafita, who headed it in past Esteban to make it 1-1 in the 32nd minute.
Almeria would not be denied the three points as Fernando Soriano scored a brilliant goal in the 37th minute to give the Andalusians a lead going into the half.
In the second half, both sides came out swinging, Almeria were determined to keep putting pressure on Getafe, while the Madrid side were trying everything they could to score the equaliser.
Almeria maintained possession throughout the second half, even when Getafe brought in Miku and Pedro Leon for an attacking spark.
However, Getafe’s break didn’t come until the 85th minute, when Almeria’s Rafita brought down Angel Lafita in the penalty area.
Getafe’s Deigo Castro stepped up and misfired the penalty, but still managed to creep past Esteban for the equaliser, in a heart breaking moment for Almeria.
