Mendilibar: We lack the hunger to score goals
After his side fell to Athletic Club Bilbao by a score of 2-0, Osasuna manager Jose Luis Mendilibar stated that his side isn’t struggling to score goals but is lacking the hunger to do so.
Following Osasuna’s 2-0 loss to Athletic Club Bilbao, manager Jose Luis Mendilibar took the time to address the press and was very clear on what his team was missing.
“It’s not that we didn’t score a goal, it’s the fact that we lacked the hunger to score. The game was very intense and we did what we needed to, but we lacked the ability to finish when we were in and around the area.”
Mendilibar then complained about the opening goal, an own goal scored by defender Alejando Arribas, saying that it was similar to a goal conceded last week against Granada and that “a pass from the right side is easily conceded.”
The Osasuna coach ended his interview by speaking about his defense claiming that things need to improve at the back to have a successful season.
“We have to solve the defensive issues. It may be that for 15 or 20 minutes there was no one defending. We can’t abandon the defensive. Regardless, the general play was good despite such a bad result.”
