Cañizares: I see no problem with Iker Casillas signing for Barcelona
Former Real Madrid and Valencia goalkeeper, Santiago Cañizares stated that he sees “no problem” with current Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas leaving the club and joining arch-rivals, Barcelona.
Rumours have swirled that Real Madrid’s legendary captain could leave the club after he was benched in favour of Diego Lopez in the first official La Liga match under Carlo Ancelotti.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are looking for a replacement for their current goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, who announced he would leave the Camp Nou when his contract expires in June 2014.
In a recent interview with Spanish radio station, Cadena SER, his former Real Madrid and Spanish national teammate, Canizares weighed in on the topic and feels Casillas would be well suited to Barcelona and should not feel guilty for having to leave the club to get playing time.
“In Barcelona and the whole world, Iker is a recognized figure.
“What counts is your profession and if you are at a place where you can’t play you look for another place.
“If I were Casillas I would be starting to think that my future lies away from Real Madrid, this much stress is not normal.
“The situation (between Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas) is uncomfortable. I was never in favour of having two great keepers on the same squad.
“Casillas is constantly in the public eye.”
