Kiko Femenía moves from Barcelona B to Real Madrid Castilla
A matter of hours after rescinding his contract with Barcelona, Femenía agrees terms with arch-rivals Real Madrid.
On Monday, Barcelona and 22-year-old midfielder Kiko Femenía agreed the mutual termination of his contract, amidst suggestions that the player was looking for a move to a Primera club, or a top-flight club in an overseas league.
Just a few hours after sealing his exit from Barcelona though, Femenía signed for their biggest rivals, Real Madrid.
Whilst it’s not strictly a move from one first-team to the other, as with stars of the past such as Figo or Ronaldo, it’s the type of move that doesn’t happen very often and often causes consternation amongst both sets of fans.
Following a rise to prominence with Hércules, Femenía arrived at Barcelona in 2011 for a cost of €2 million plus future incentives. The player was seen as having great potential, having already seen lots of action in the Primera and Segunda with Hércules, which would be developed in the Barca B team. Over the last two seasons, whilst having made over sixty appearances, he became unsettled and didn’t make the sort of progress that Barcelona were hoping for.
That hasn’t dissuaded Real Madrid moving swiftly following his exit from the Catalan club though, snapping Femenía up to play for RM Castilla, in one of the more surprising moves so far this summer.
