On Tuesday afternoon, Barcelona and Qatar Airways announced their lucrative €96 million partnership deal that will see the club earn just over €30 million per season.
In the official presentation, president Sandro Rosell and Javier Faus spoke about the particulars of the sponsorship agreement and how much it will earn the club.
“What brings Barça and Qatar airlines together is excellence and the good work of the people who strive for that. They’ll be a big help for us because our 300 million fans can now visit the Camp Nou to see the team. They’ve also started a daily flight between Barcelona and Doha (Qatar’s capital). I can only say that I’m extremely proud to have them as our main sponsors
“They run PSG, but they only sponsor Barcelona, nothing more. We are still to receive 30.5 million euros this year, 32 next year and 33.5 in the last season. There are also negotiations on-going to have a bonus of five million euros for winning the Champions League, though that would be a one-off. Advertising will be placed at the goal at the Northern end of the ground [the Av. Joan XXII end] and the museum will have a Qatar Airways section. The renewal of a contract of this nature needs to go through the Members Assembly.”
Rosell went on to deny that there is no discussion, nor has there ever been a discussion to change the name of the Camp Nou.
“There is no way that Qatar Airways could be the commercial name of the Camp Nou.”
