Juventus tracking Xabi Alonso renewal negotiations
Reigning Serie A champions, Juventus are reportedly tracking the contract negotiations between Real Madrid and defensive midfielder, Xabi Alonso and weighing up an offer for the Spanish international in January, should he become a free agent in the summer of 2014.
According to Spanish sports daily AS, via reports in Italy Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and manager Antonio Conte are both convinced that Alonso would be the ideal replacement for Andrea Pirlo, whose contract is also set to expire next summer and has made statements suggesting that he could leave the Old Lady on a free transfer.
Alonso and Real Madrid were negotiating a contract extension late last season, but due to injury and uncertainty, Alonso put a hold on the talks until later.
The former Liverpool midfielder underwent foot surgery late last month and will be out for three months, putting his starting spot in Spain’s 2014 World Cup squad in jeopardy.
