Back injury problems continue for Real Betis striker Rubén Castro
Real Betis announced that Rubén Castro continues to suffer discomfort with a troublesome back injury and he will head to Barcelona for further treatment at a specialist clinic.
Rubén Castro was named in the squads for both the midweek Europa League game against Lyon, as well as Sunday’s La Liga tie against Granada, but ultimately had to pull out of both games, as he continues to experience discomfort in his back.
The back injury has been an issue throughout pre-season and with the campaign now in full swing, remains a problem for the 32-year-old.
Having to withdraw from the squad just hours before the game on Sunday, experiencing pains and therefore clearly unable to participate, many feel his absence is a key reason why the team are struggling to score goals.
After the 0-0 draw against Granada on Sunday, Real Betis manager Pepe Mel expressed his disappointment that the injury problem persists for his striker.
“We named 19 in the squad because there was a good chance that he might not be good. The aim was to have him on the bench again, then to bring him on for some minutes. It’s a problem, because he’s a valuable player that I can’t utilise at the moment.”
