Carles Puyol targets comeback against Osasuna
Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol is finally set to make his long-awaited return, against Osasuna, after being sidelined by knee surgery that has kept him off the pitch for 222 days.
Puyol’s last competitive match was on 12th March, following a 4-0 win over AC Milan in Champions League play, the 35-year-old underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to clean scar tissue out of his right knee.
While his recover progressed, three months after the surgery, Puyol was again forced to undergo surgery to remove a Baker’s cyst, further delaying his comeback and causing him to withdraw from Spain’s Confederation Cup campaign this past summer.
Puyol’s return couldn’t come at a better moment as Barcelona is currently down to two healthy centre-backs, Gerard Pique and Marc Bartra, after Javier Mascherano suffered a knee injury that will keep him sidelined for the next several weeks.
Puyol has been incorporated back into the squad and will use the international break to get match fit to make his return.
