Málaga have revealed that veteran Brazilian defender Weligton has agreed new terms on an extended contract with the club.

Since his arrival in 2007 from Swiss side Grasshopper Zürich, initially on loan, but sealed permanently the following season, central defender Weligton has been a key component in the heart of the Málaga back four, making over 200 appearances for the club.

On Tuesday morning, the club announced that they have reached an agreement with the 34-year-old Brazilian, that will keep him at Los Boquerones for another two seasons.

Unfortunately for the player, he hasn’t been able to feature so far this season, having fractured a collarbone during pre-season. The club however have shown their faith in his ability to recover fully and return to his best, seeing him as a fundamental part of their team.

A presentation and press conference will be held on Wednesday 9th October a La Rosaleda, where the contract signing will be officially formalised.
