Six La Liga candidates for 2013 Golden Boy award

The candidates for the annual Golden Boy award have been announced and La Liga is well-represented with six U-21 stars leading the pack.

The award, presented by Italian sports daily, Tuttosport, has released their 40-player list, featuring the brightest starlets in world football.

La Liga has six players named to the squad; Atletico Madrid’s Oliver Torres, Celta Vigo/Barcelona’s Rafinha, Real Madrid’s Jese, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Sevilla’s Cristoforo and Elche’s Boakye.

The early favourites to win the award are Varane, Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Everton/Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, while others such as Rafinha and Schalke’s Julian Draxler are also expected to be on the short list.

Another name La Liga fans may recognize is that of current AS Monaco midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia, who rose to stardom while at Sevilla last season.

Last year’s winner was former Malaga and current Real Madrid star, Isco, who was joined by other past La Liga winners such as; Leo Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Aguero.
