Barcelona midfielder, Xavi Hernandez refused to comment on the controversial non-called penalty of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, instead praising his side of their 2-1 win over Los Blancos in the first ‘Clasico’ of the season.

In his post-match interview, Xavi refused to discuss the foul on Cristiano, admitting its better for them that the Portuguese star doesn’t take a penalty.

“I haven’t seen the replay.  I don’t know if it was a penalty, it’s a tossup.  It may be legal or illegal. The referee didn’t call it and that’s better for us.

Xavi went on to discuss the match and praised winger, Alexis Sanchez for his incredible goal.

“We witnessed a great match and the best team won.

“Alexis is a great player, very important for us, and I have a lot of confidence in him. This goal will give him a lot of confidence.

“A six-point advantage is significant, we’re still undefeated and that’s important.

“We played better than Madrid. We weren’t brilliant but we saw a good Barça and they also played well. We can improve.”
